Embassy Row hits all my happy buttons. I love the family drama, the secrets, the multi-generational fealty with a side order of unrelenting protectiveness, the ornate court celebrations, and the way that Grace (and Caroline) are unwilling or unable to stay out of harm's way. The final book wrapped up most of the major questions, but there's still so much room pre- and post-canon to explore these less than functional people and their web of ridiculously, gloriously complicated relationships.
Caroline Blakely/Dominic Novak | The Scarred Man
• Caroline and Dominic carrying on after her marriage, an oddly open secret, while Karina and Ann provide nominal cover for them.
• Canon expansion surrounding the faked-death-turned-real. Caroline's last few actions (visiting Karina, the palace) and Dominic receiving/reacting to the order, going to Caroline to work out their exit plan. Ann's reaction when she learns the order went to him; does she really believe he did it? Or is Grace a welcome guarantee of good behaviour?
• Adventures as teenagers. Casefic or drama of some kind tied to the politics of Adria. A diplomatic murder connected with Caroline's father at the embassy, and they all work to solve it? Political intrigue connected to Ann's courtship with the prince? Karina's impulses getting everybody in way over their heads!
Grace Blakely & Jamie Blakely & Alexei Volkov & Dominic Novak | The Scarred Man
• Bickering on a road trip, whether in-canon or afterward. Possibly with random carjacker who quickly ends up wishing to be anywhere but there.
• Grace and Alexei fussing over Jamie's healing process. Dominic chasing them away when they fail to be useful. Unpleasant people finding them on the island, further complicating the healing process. Everybody protecting each other and forgetting to take care of themselves.
• Setting traps and snares on the island, learning to look after themselves and each other. Grouchy bonding that nobody wants to let on is actually happening.
• Renaissance AU! Victorian boarding school AU! Steampunk AU!
Grace Blakely/Dominic Novak | The Scarred Man
• Dominic's perspective on the inconvenient resemblance between Grace and her mother, both physically and their shared lack of impulse control, as well as any instinct for self-preservation.
• Aftermath of Dominic getting shot in the tomb. Grace being a terrible nurse and Dominic being an awful patient. Arguing with each other all through his convalescence.
• Somebody from Dominic's line of work finds out about Grace and tries to exploit that attachment.
• Dominic's perspective on canon events, whether the moment Grace tackles him, the night he stitches up her knife wound, her time trapped in the palace, or anything else you want to explore.

I love the unapologetic teenage melodrama of these books. Everything is so equally life and death, whether it's actual murderous witch hunters or Cassie's angst over her love of both Adam and Diana. Everything is so Significant and Meaningful, and somehow through all of that, the teenagerhood of the characters is perfectly communicated. Sometimes I love a canon that doesn't take itself too seriously, but in this case, I think the unapologetic melodrama is what really makes it all work.
• Magic dreamscape or dimension travel; maybe originally set up as a trap for them, but they end up being more than equal to the setting because of who they are, individually and together
• Alternate opening where Diana went with Adam to find the skull, so Cassie ends up meeting and saving them both
• Some kind of mutual rescue or other situation where they all basically take turns protecting or looking after each other
• Travelling for fun or handwavy Circle reasons, they end up returning to the beach where Cassie met Adam. I would be equally happy if this led to witch hunters or smut

My favorite impossibly fun teen witch drama with an aggravatingly shippable cast! I adore their complicated tangle of personal drama and magical mayhem, and Jake and Diana have particularly intrigued me as a couple for a little while now. Something about how Diana tries to carefully to keep everything and everybody together while Jake seems hellbent on destruction, only to have those roles very nearly reverse near the end of the series, just grabs me. I can't wait to see what you come up with for them.
• Peril/protectiveness. Diana and Jake both having complementary, albeit wildly different, competencies and styles of magic and using those in defense of each other.
• Spell gone wrong? Maybe a memory spell reverts Jake back to his earlier self, and Diana needs to contend with a very different version of him. Emotional fallout after he's back as he was and he has to confront whatever he's done.
• Time travel! Historic AU. MAGICAL REGENCY PERIOD AU. Overconfident rake/unimpressed heroine/improbable magical intrigue yesplz.
• Mutual rescue and mutual scolding for requiring rescue in the first place, cause You Are Not Allowed to Scare Me Like That

This book rolled into my head like it had just rolled out of it. I love the characters, the conflict, the dizzying variety of imperilments, the way Stefan crowded into the kids' personal space like he owned it . . . I am here for all antagonistic road trip dynamics between scrappy, sarcastic teens and their surly adult male sometime-menacing-but-ultimately-protective figure. Stefan's willingness to get up close and personal with both Maddie and Logan, Maddie's periodic loathing-plus-attraction to him and Logan being actively, eagerly ready to brain him with a sharp rock or go for him with his bare hands every time he got too close to Maddie were all just A++. Basically it hit nearly all possible narrative kinks I could have asked of any book and I am desperately greedy for more of the same.
• Canon expansion with more of Stefan using each of the kids as the other's pressure point. He was so handsy, but always very purposefully so. I loved that.
• Canon divergence where they all have to spend the night in the cabin. It is exactly as uncomfortable as it should be.
• There actually was a mole as well, or moles, and they are inbound on the chopper at the end of the book so Stefan has to double back to help.
• Post-canon they reunite for another misadventure, this time maybe slightly more allied with each other than before. Or not allied at all. Or a mix. Your call!

Embassy Row hits all my happy buttons. I love the family drama, the secrets, the multi-generational fealty with a side order of unrelenting protectiveness, the ornate court celebrations, and the way that Grace (and Caroline) are unwilling or unable to stay out of harm's way. The final book wrapped up most of the major questions, but there's still so much room pre- and post-canon to explore these less than functional people and their web of ridiculously, gloriously complicated relationships.
Caroline Blakely/Dominic Novak | The Scarred Man
• Caroline and Dominic carrying on after her marriage, an oddly open secret, while Karina and Ann provide nominal cover for them.
• Canon expansion surrounding the faked-death-turned-real. Caroline's last few actions (visiting Karina, the palace) and Dominic receiving/reacting to the order, going to Caroline to work out their exit plan. Ann's reaction when she learns the order went to him; does she really believe he did it? Or is Grace a welcome guarantee of good behaviour?
• Adventures as teenagers. Casefic or drama of some kind tied to the politics of Adria. A diplomatic murder connected with Caroline's father at the embassy, and they all work to solve it? Political intrigue connected to Ann's courtship with the prince? Karina's impulses getting everybody in way over their heads!
Grace Blakely & Jamie Blakely & Alexei Volkov & Dominic Novak | The Scarred Man
• Bickering on a road trip, whether in-canon or afterward. Possibly with random carjacker who quickly ends up wishing to be anywhere but there.
• Grace and Alexei fussing over Jamie's healing process. Dominic chasing them away when they fail to be useful. Unpleasant people finding them on the island, further complicating the healing process. Everybody protecting each other and forgetting to take care of themselves.
• Setting traps and snares on the island, learning to look after themselves and each other. Grouchy bonding that nobody wants to let on is actually happening.
• Renaissance AU! Victorian boarding school AU! Steampunk AU!
Grace Blakely/Dominic Novak | The Scarred Man
• Dominic's perspective on the inconvenient resemblance between Grace and her mother, both physically and their shared lack of impulse control, as well as any instinct for self-preservation.
• Aftermath of Dominic getting shot in the tomb. Grace being a terrible nurse and Dominic being an awful patient. Arguing with each other all through his convalescence.
• Somebody from Dominic's line of work finds out about Grace and tries to exploit that attachment.
• Dominic's perspective on canon events, whether the moment Grace tackles him, the night he stitches up her knife wound, her time trapped in the palace, or anything else you want to explore.

I love the unapologetic teenage melodrama of these books. Everything is so equally life and death, whether it's actual murderous witch hunters or Cassie's angst over her love of both Adam and Diana. Everything is so Significant and Meaningful, and somehow through all of that, the teenagerhood of the characters is perfectly communicated. Sometimes I love a canon that doesn't take itself too seriously, but in this case, I think the unapologetic melodrama is what really makes it all work.
• Magic dreamscape or dimension travel; maybe originally set up as a trap for them, but they end up being more than equal to the setting because of who they are, individually and together
• Alternate opening where Diana went with Adam to find the skull, so Cassie ends up meeting and saving them both
• Some kind of mutual rescue or other situation where they all basically take turns protecting or looking after each other
• Travelling for fun or handwavy Circle reasons, they end up returning to the beach where Cassie met Adam. I would be equally happy if this led to witch hunters or smut

The Secret Circle (TV)
Jake Armstrong/Diana Meade, Fanfiction
My favorite impossibly fun teen witch drama with an aggravatingly shippable cast! I adore their complicated tangle of personal drama and magical mayhem, and Jake and Diana have particularly intrigued me as a couple for a little while now. Something about how Diana tries to carefully to keep everything and everybody together while Jake seems hellbent on destruction, only to have those roles very nearly reverse near the end of the series, just grabs me. I can't wait to see what you come up with for them.
• Peril/protectiveness. Diana and Jake both having complementary, albeit wildly different, competencies and styles of magic and using those in defense of each other.
• Spell gone wrong? Maybe a memory spell reverts Jake back to his earlier self, and Diana needs to contend with a very different version of him. Emotional fallout after he's back as he was and he has to confront whatever he's done.
• Time travel! Historic AU. MAGICAL REGENCY PERIOD AU. Overconfident rake/unimpressed heroine/improbable magical intrigue yesplz.
• Mutual rescue and mutual scolding for requiring rescue in the first place, cause You Are Not Allowed to Scare Me Like That

Not If I Save You First - Ally Carter
Stefan/Maddie Manchester/Logan, Fanfiction
This book rolled into my head like it had just rolled out of it. I love the characters, the conflict, the dizzying variety of imperilments, the way Stefan crowded into the kids' personal space like he owned it . . . I am here for all antagonistic road trip dynamics between scrappy, sarcastic teens and their surly adult male sometime-menacing-but-ultimately-protective figure. Stefan's willingness to get up close and personal with both Maddie and Logan, Maddie's periodic loathing-plus-attraction to him and Logan being actively, eagerly ready to brain him with a sharp rock or go for him with his bare hands every time he got too close to Maddie were all just A++. Basically it hit nearly all possible narrative kinks I could have asked of any book and I am desperately greedy for more of the same.
• Canon expansion with more of Stefan using each of the kids as the other's pressure point. He was so handsy, but always very purposefully so. I loved that.
• Canon divergence where they all have to spend the night in the cabin. It is exactly as uncomfortable as it should be.
• There actually was a mole as well, or moles, and they are inbound on the chopper at the end of the book so Stefan has to double back to help.
• Post-canon they reunite for another misadventure, this time maybe slightly more allied with each other than before. Or not allied at all. Or a mix. Your call!
