Nomination Queries

Hi all! Sorry for somewhat radio silence, been busy.

I have just about all the noms up to this point approved (thanks to adding on a second tag moderator since I got a bit overwhelmed. Thanks for the enthusiasm though!), but just have a few queries about some of the noms:
  • The Sandman (Comics): Someone nominated Destruction of the Endless/Ishtar and AO3 is suggesting a switch to Beili/Destruction of the Endless which is the canonical. Is this a safe swap to do or are Beili and Ishtar two separate characters?
  • Two queries in Misfits (TV 2009)
    • Alisha Daniels/Superhoodie: Who is Superhoodie, I couldn't locate this person when researching the show.
    • Simon Bellamy/Curtis Donovan as Melissa: I did research and know that Curtis Donovan and Melissa are the same person (canon genderswap, which is allowed). However, would Simon Bellamy/Melissa be a better tag to use?
  • The Flash (TV 2014): Both Caitlin Snow/Eddie Thawne and Killer Frost/Eddie Thawn were nominated. Research says Caitlin Snow and Killer Frost are the same person? Any reason why they should be split?
  • Bates Motel (2013): Pairings nominated were Caleb Calhoun/Marion Crane, Norma Bates/Alex Romero, Norma Bates/Caleb Calhoun, Norma Bates/Norman Bates, and Norman Bates/Cody Brennan. However, all of these characters appear in the Bates Motel TV show, but not the 2013 movie. Would changing the fandom to the TV show work?
  • The Hobbit - All Media Types: Pairings nominated wre Bard the Bowman/Dís, Bofur (Tolkien)/Tilda (Hobbit Movies), Dís/Thranduil (Tolkien), Éowyn/Frerin (Tolkien), and Kíli (Tolkien)/Tauriel (Hobbit Movies). Did the nominator want the book or the movies?
I think we're at a point where these (and anything added since I post this) would be all left to approve!

I can't tell you what they intended, but Éowyn/Frerin would be a crossover (Lord of the Rings books or movies/The Hobbit books or movies).

same anon

Or technically they could both go in The Lord of the Rings books because Frerin is mentioned in the appendices (but that was probably not what they meant).

The Hobbit

Not the nominator, but I know her and the intention was for movies.

I didn't nominate Bates Motel, but I'm pretty sure I know who did. It's a TV show that premiered in 2013.

Technically movies for The Hobbit, but isn't the purpose of All Media Types to cover both if need be? (I'm just curious, that's why I nominated them that way). But yes, technically Frerin/Eowyn could be considered a crossover of LOTR and The Hobbit, though Frerin was never really a character in a book since he was dead by the time everything happened. They are just both Tolkien characters.

There's a multiverse in play on The Flash. Also prophetic destinies of evilness but best guess is that they meant Killer Frost from a separate timeline, Earth-2. Not usually thought of as the same character, though you could do so I guess.

I'm the nominator for Misfits.

- Superhoodie is Simon Bellamy from future: at some point in the (still early) series we have two Simons, but none of them know the real identity of future!Simon for a while and since he does superheroing stuff and wears a hood+mask to hide his identity they nickname him as Superhoodie. Alisha is the first character he reveals his identity to and she becomes his girlfriend from there on.

I don't think Curtis as Melissa is ever been written on AO3, so I don't think there's a canonized tag for his genderswapped identity. I'm cool any way you want to go, even only "Melissa" instead of "Curtis as Melissa" is fine with me.

Sa

I've changed it to Future Simon Bellamy/Alisha Daniels, is this better?

It's alright, I'm cool with either way to call the ships. Besides, I have the feeling I'm the only one interested in this show so it's all probably for nothing. :/

Killer Frost nominator here.

Killer Frost and Catlin Snow have split personalities, and the TV show makes it a big deal that Catlin turning into Killer Frost means she'll cease to exist as Catlin (one of the good guys) to have her personality overridden forever into Killer Frost's, a cold-hearted cynical woman (a foe). It's almost happened on the show (though Flash was able to make her revert back to Catlin, for the time being anyway).

That's basically why I didn't nominate Catlin/Eddie instead. :p

I wasn't trying to nominate Killer Frost from Earth-2, BTW.

Bates Motel (2013) is the tv show, the movie of the same name was made in 1987 and afaik there's no fic for it on AO3 so it doesn't have a tag.

Under Crossovers
Kara Danvers (Supergirl show)/Steve Rogers (MCU)
Kara Danvers (Supergirl)/Steve Rogers (MCU)

This is probably the same ship twice.

I don't know if you've already deleted it or haven't gotten to it yet, but if you have the reason it the dup is still showing up is because sometimes you have to delete the manual association too.

Okay, it's just a particularly annoying bug so I wanted to give you a heads up about it too.

FYI, there's some duplication and tag migration going on in the Tolkien fandoms (I don't know why Tolkien tags tend to wander so much!)

In The Lord of the Rings - J. R. R. Tolkien:

Aragorn | Estel/Arwen Undómiel
Aragorn | Estel/Arwen Undómiel (book)
Aragorn | Estel/Arwen Undómiel (books)

are the same pairing.

Fëanor | Curufinwë/Nerdanel
Huor/Rían of the House of Bëor
Legolas Greenleaf/Tilda (Hobbit Movies)

have wandered in from other Tolkien fandoms.

In The Hobbit (Jackson Movies):

Celebrían/Elrond Peredhel

has probably wandered in from another Tolkien fandom; Celebrían is not a character in the movies and is over the sea in Valinor during that time period.

In The Lord of the Rings (Movies):

Celebrían/Elrond Peredhel

has probably wandered in from another Tolkien fandom; Celebrían is not a character in the movies and is over the sea in Valinor during that time period.

Denethor II/Finduilas of Dol Amroth
Isildur/Isildur's Wife

have wandered in from other Tolkien fandoms.

How do you nominate things on AO3? I can't figure it out.

(Anonymous) 2017-01-15 06:01 am (UTC)(link)
First you need to own an account on AO3, then you go to the het-swap tag-set page here: http://archiveofourown.org/tag_sets/1576 and you click on the button "Nominate" located above and on the right, it's only visible if you're logged in. When you click on the button, it'll send you to a page where there are five empty fandom slots and five ship slots for each fandom, you just need to start writing a name on the first fandom slot and the autocomplete function will suggest all the possible fandom names beginning with your typed word. Same with the ships.

Yeah, I guess Beili is the canonical name. You can go ahead and change it.

(Anonymous) 2017-01-15 09:02 am (UTC)(link)
There's Diana/Bruce twice under Justice League & Justice League Unlimited (Cartoons):
Diana (Wonder Woman)/Bruce Wayne (Justice League Unlimited)
Diana (Wonder Woman)/Bruce Wayne

The latter is most likely a tag wandering from the DC Cinematic Universe, since those tags aren't disambiguated.

Jadzia Dax/Worf nominated under Star Trek: Deep Space Nine ship) also migrated under Star Trek: The Next Generation, same reason.

I can't tell you what they intended, but the Sherlock Holmes/Molly Hooper tag in the Sherlock Holmes book category is either in the wrong place or a crossover. Molly Hooper is a strictly BBC Sherlock character, while Sherlock Holmes can, of course, be found in either canon.

No problem! I hope the tags ends up where the nominator meant them to be!

Some Wrangling I noticed with my fandoms:

Leonard Snart/Lisa Snart is in the tags for Young Justice. Problem is, there's no proof Lisa exists in that fandom. (I'd say it belongs in Flash (2014), but that pair is already in there).
