hetswap | Creator Reveals + 2019

Creators have now been revealed over at the Het Swap 2018 collection! Please remember to thank your writer if you haven't already.

I plan to run this exchange again in 2019 around approximately the same time and will make a post with the new schedule late this year. A few questions for anyone who participated / is interested in participating:

This exchange has been writing-only for the past two rounds. Would you be interested in opening it to different media (art, podfic, etc)? If so, what is a good minimum requirement equivalent to 1,000 words?

There was some interest before the exchange began in opening the exchange to poly relationships. Is that still the case or would you prefer to keep the original pairing rules?

Thanks! There weren't many responses about poly relationships, but since there are a few interested people, I'll open the exchange to include poly relationships next round. I'll also be adding art (drawn/digital) and video medium options.

While I probably wouldn't request or offer it, I like the idea of opening up to other mediums - it lets more people participate, and the more the merrier. Looking at some other exchanges with a 1k word count minimum for written work, WorldbuildingEx used "a finished piece of art, not on lined paper, with a total size of 400,000 pixels or more" as their art minimum; Rare Pair Fest required "computer- or hand-drawn and must be complete (no rough sketches)" for art; All in the Family required "a finished piece (not on lined paper)". (AitF also allowed vids, so long as they were "a minimum of 1 minute long and complete".) Based on those, I'd say "finished, not a sketch, not on lined paper" sounds like a workable art minimum equivalent to 1k.

Thank you! I'm also of a the more the merrier opinion when it comes to the exchange. I'll open the exchange to art in the next round, likely "a finished piece of art on unlined paper, hand-drawn or digitally drawn".

I like the idea of opening it up to art and vids at the very least! For one thing, there aren't a lot of exchanges that allow vids aside from the vid-only ones, and I love having it as an option.

1 minute of vid seems to be the usual equivalent for the fic minimums.

For art, in the exchanges I run (based on discussion with a number of artists and exchange participants), I usually:

- Split it into Art (Drawn or Digital) and Art (Graphics), i.e. an artwork vs. manipulated graphics such as wallpapers or gifs (you could just disallow the latter type; not many people request them - but a lot of people are fairly adamant about not allowing both in the same category since many participants have a strong preference for one or the other).

- For drawn art, "a finished piece of art" is what fanartists have told me is the most helpful way to describe what I want. Apparently minimum dimensions are not actually useful (I've been told). I've also seen people specify qualifiers such as "inked and/or colored" or "not on lined paper" but I usually leave those off as well, and haven't had any problems.

- For graphics, my boilerplate minimums are the following: " at least one wallpaper of the desired size (recipients who want wallpapers should give their screen dimensions in their request details); or at least 10 icons; or at least two gifsets of minimum 4 gifs each; or an equivalent amount of some other kind of digital art or manip. Recipients are not guaranteed a particular kind of graphic."

Thank you! I hadn't thought of video as a format before your comment, but that's something I'd like to include since it seems like a good way to interpret relationships. I appreciate the different forms of art you listed; I'm not an artist, so it's great to have some idea of what artists think is a good minimum. I'll probably stick to drawn/digital art only unless there's some interest in including manips/graphics.
