Hi and welcome to the 2019 round of Het Swap! Due to some real life work stuff that's come up, I'll have limited free time over the weekend, so I'm opening nominations a few days early. Nominations will still close at 11:59pm MST on June 10th.
You are allowed 8 fandoms, with 10 relationships in each. Here are the nomination guidelines:
The allowance of poly ships is the most notable change from 2018. Any questions, please comment on this post or get in touch via DM or at hetswapex@gmail.com.
Another point of order: podfics, fanvids, and fanart are now allowed this year! When you sign up, you will choose what mediums you wish to offer and request in your sign up form. You will then be matched to someone based on: one fandom, one relationship, and one fanwork medium.
Updated minimum requirements for these fanwork mediums are:
Questions or comments, leave them here! My email again: hetswapex@gmail.com. While I'll be away from my laptop until Tuesday-ish, I'll still have my phone on me, so I'll be available to discuss any concerns or questions you have. Have fun!
You are allowed 8 fandoms, with 10 relationships in each. Here are the nomination guidelines:
- All relationships must be het.
- For the purposes of this exchange, het relationships are defined as a relationship between a partner who is male or genderqueer/non-binary, and a partner who is female/genderqueer non-binary. Both cannot be genderqueer non-binary. So for example: Ace is canonically male, Bee is canonically female, and Cam and Dex are both genderqueer/non-binary. The only pairing that would not be allowed in that situation would be Cam/Dex.
- NEW 2019: Poly ships are now allowed. Relationship must be romantic sexual - the "/" cannot be combined with "&" (i.e., you can nominate Ace/Bee/Cam but not Ace/Bee & Cam.)
- The het requirement in poly ships still applies - as long as there is at least one "angle" of the ship that qualifies under the definition listed above, it will be allowed.
- Genderswap is not allowed unless you are nominating an aspect of canon where the character has always been another gender (such as the Earth-3490 verse in Marvel, where Tony Stark has always been canonically female.)
- Pairings nominated with the "&" sign will not be allowed.
- Crossover relationships are allowed; please nominate under Crossover Fandom and include the fandom each character is from.
- Original Work relationships are allowed; please nominate under Original Work and include the genders of each character.
- Original characters are allowed in relationships with canon characters. Please include gender, i.e. Poe Dameron/Female Original Character, or James Kirk/Genderqueer Original Character, etc.
- Self-insert "reader" characters and RPF is also allowed. All nominated "characters" in RPF ships must be over 18 and famous in their own right.
- Fanart: one completed illustration or two sketches on unlined paper. A completed illustration includes color/shading OR background. Line art counts as sketches.
- Fanvids: completed, at least one minute in length.
- Podfic: completed recording of a story at least 1,000 words long that fulfills your recipient's requested fandom/character. If recording someone else's story, you must obtain permission from the original creator. If writing your own story, the minimum word length is lowered to 600 words to account for the extra work.

Date: 2019-05-30 08:38 pm (UTC)With the Netflix shows - nobody has nominated anything yet, but going from the general preference of fans in other exchanges, I was planning on grouping them together under one heading titled "Marvel Netflix," or something similar. I'm open to arguments for/against, though.

Date: 2019-05-30 09:39 pm (UTC)My preference as someone in a couple of the subfandoms would be to have them separated out, as (for example) the Star Wars trilogies usually are despite character overlap. I get why it might be logistically easier to group them together to avoid tag duplication, however.

Date: 2019-05-30 10:07 pm (UTC)Wouldn't disambiguating the tags solve the tag drift problem? Which is what I'm doing with MCU/any other fandom with character overlap anyway.

Date: 2019-05-30 10:19 pm (UTC)The other problem with "Marvel Netflix" as an umbrella tag is that the tag itself floats around, so, for example, in an earlier exchange this year, "Marvel Netflix" was showing up in "Movies" instead of TV. It's also not usually how the shows are referred to in the fandom (people usually just call it Defenders if they refer to it as a group at all; at least that's been my experience), so it makes it harder to find. I think most people tend to look under the individual show names; that's how these shows used to be handled in exchanges, but there was a sudden switch to grouping them late last year, and there's still not a consensus group tag for it.
If a group tag is going to have to be used, I think "Defenders (TV)" is the closest to one that everyone would think to look for it under. Personally, I would prefer to have them separated out - Punisher, Daredevil, etc.

Date: 2019-05-30 10:26 pm (UTC)The only downside to using Defenders as a catch-all in my estimation would be that it would seem to exclude characters that appear in the individual shows but not in the actual Defenders series. But I'll put the question to the community as a whole and go with what the majority wants!

Date: 2019-06-01 12:08 am (UTC)(You could also call it something weird the archive won't have seen before to trick it, like Marvel Netflix AO3 Don't Eat This or something, but I agree that in general people in the fandom are not actually that attached to calling it that.)

Date: 2019-05-30 11:05 pm (UTC)Hey mods, by rejecting Arrowverse on my nominations instead of changing it to the correct fandom you have made it so that I can’t nominate anything else in that slot without AO3 automatically rejecting it.

Date: 2019-05-30 11:09 pm (UTC)Let me know what other ships you want nominated and I'll add them in.
(Also: that's the tag set link, not the link to your specific nomination page, FYI)

Date: 2019-05-31 12:57 am (UTC)I was trying to copy and paste on my phone before.
In the future, if you instead change the duplicate fandom to something like "Arrowverse - Duplicate Bug", accept it, deal with the ships involved, then manually delete the extra fandom, it will allow the same effect without using the reject button and preventing the participant from using the rest of their slots and will prevent auto rejecting someone else hit by the same typo/bug. It will show up again if the individual adds more ships, but that seems preferable to having something you see rather than something nominators need to tell you about.
I'd like Kara Danvers/Laurel Lance/Oliver Queen (Arrowverse) added. I'm undecided on the rest of my Arrowverse slots.

Date: 2019-05-31 01:17 am (UTC)In the past these two timelines have been split into different fandoms. If you prefer them together, that's fine, but I'll wait to see if there are other X-Men nominators that have different opinions if that's alright with you.
